Yobs have set upon a set of new park benches which have been vandalised just weeks after being installed.
The seating in Hythe was installed at Horn Street Recreation Ground at the end of March after the town council received a grant.
Hythe Town Council received the money for the outdoor furniture near the playground at the recreation ground in a bid to encourage residents to spend more time outside.
Bosses at the council have described the news as “devastating” and say they were saddened to have seen the benches broken and split.
“We are really sad to see that some of the new benches that were recently installed at Horn Street Recreation Ground have been vandalised,” the council in a statement.
“Wouldn't it be better to have benches to sit on with your friends than sit on the floor? The mind wonders and quite often asks WHY? Why do this?”
The council is now calling for anyone who witnesses any anti-social behaviour including vandalism to property, to report it to the police on 101.
Pictures of the pair of wooden benches show the backs of them have been snapped and mud has been spread on them.
Residents have commented on the council’s post saying it is frustrating to see.
“So heartbreaking,” one person commented.
“So frustrating ruining it for everyone. Idiots,” another wrote.
