THE first phase of Operation Stack was still in place this morning, closing the M20 coast-bound at Hythe.

Phase 1 of Stack was imposed yesterday because industrial action by SeaFrance staff in France was causing a build-up of freight traffic.

Phase 1 means the M20 is closed coast-bound between junction 11 (Hythe) and junction 12 (Cheriton).

All traffic is directed off the motorway at junction 11 and diverted onto the A20. Lorries are allowed back onto the motorway to park and wait for ferry services to resume.
