An 80-year-old woman was taken to hospital after she was knocked over by a frightened dog that had bolted from outside a shop.
The pet had been tied up outside a newsagents in Bank Street, Hythe, when is spooked and took off, with the metal bin it was tied to still attached to its lead.
Ambulance crews rushed to the street on Monday at about 12.40pm after the pensioner was knocked down by the frightened animal.
Eyewitness Lilly Manton, 21, a waitress at nearby Gingers Kitchen, said: “I don’t know what happened but the dog must have been scared or something, and it just ran off down the road with the bin still attached.
“We saw it knock over the lady. It was really worrying because she couldn’t stand up at first but eventually she walked over to the ambulance car when it arrived.
“The dog just ran off. Someone tried to stop it but I don’t know where it went.
“It’s owner came out of the shop and went to look for it.
“There were loads of people surrounding the lady and there was quiet a lot of commotion.
I hope she is okay.”
A SECamb spokesman said: “A paramedic car was dispatched to the scene and assessed the patient who was suffering pains in the hip area.
“The patient was taken to William Harvey hospital for further assessment”.
Her injuries are not thought to be serious.
