A MAJOR search along the Shepway coastline today has now been called off. The search began after a rigid inflatable dinghy was found damaged at Hythe Firing Ranges.

But the registered owner of the boat has now been found safe and well after contacting the coastguard.

It is believed the man beached the boat after he ran into difficulties.

Had there been activity at the Hythe Firing Ranges he would have been picked up on their radar as they have a no-go sea zone when the site is in use.
