A single ballet shoe was sold at auction for almost £1,500 today.
The ballet slipper sold at Westenhanger Auctioneers near Hythe for £1,450 due to the prominence of its former owner, ballerina Margot Fonteyn.
Ahead of the sale, the pink shoe - which was signed, owned and worn by the dame - was estimated to fetch between £1,500 and £2,000.
The item of footwear has been in the same family for many years after it was bought at a charity auction.
Dame Margot Fonteyn, who died in 1991 aged 71, was one of the best-known dancers of the last century and helped popularise dance in the United States following an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.
She also originated 45 roles over the span of 50 years.
