A FIRE which swept through a development of flats in Hythe is being treated as suspicious.

The 10 apartments in the two-storey block on London Road were a month away from completion.

The blaze started at about 1.45am on Tuesday and fire crews from Hythe, Folkestone, Ashford, Dymchurch and Faversham attended. About 50 firefighters were at the scene at the height of the blaze.

Crews needed extra hoses to pump water out of the nearby Hythe Royal Military Canal as water supplies and pressure in the area were too low.

Kent fire officers and police are investigating the incident.
