Hythe joint-boss Tony Beckingham admits Saturday’s return to his old club East Grinstead has come sooner than he wanted.

Beckingham quit the Sussex club just three weeks ago to join Clive Cook in succeeding sacked Cannons manager Tim Dixon at Reachfields.

He had two spells in charge of the Wasps, who have just appointed former Erith & Belvedere boss Matt Longhurst as their new manager.

"It’s not ideal, is it?" Beckingham said.

"My boss is on the committee there as well so that will make it even more interesting on Saturday but they’re lovely people down there – I really mean that.

"I could have done with this game coming further down the line but it is what it is and it’s nothing personal.

"East Grinstead is a club I only have warm feelings for. I consider the people there as friends so I’m looking forward to seeing them.

"But it will be awkward going there, standing in the away dugout and trying to take three points off them.

"I just want to get the game over and done with and get onto the next one."
