More trialists are heading to Hythe Town this weekend as boss Clive Cook searches for another gem to add to his squad.

Cook’s latest signing is Sam Welch, the former Hollands & Blair full-back having impressed at the start of pre-season.

That means the Cannons have brought in seven new players this summer but Cook hasn’t stopped looking.

Cook said: "I’m still looking at a couple more who I’ve been interested in. They’ve been trialling somewhere else.

"One comes back from being away in America on Wednesday (today) so we’re looking at
him.

"I just want to get going. The worst part of pre-season is sorting out the squad you want, do you let him go, that type of thing.

"It’s all about getting the decisions right. Everything is coming along nicely."

Welch was part of the Blair side which led the Southern Counties East League for much of last season before finishing runners-up to Greenwich Borough.

Cook said: "He’s a nice lad, doing well. It’s just about him getting used to the Ryman League.

"I think he’ll be all right, he’ll do well. He’s a full-back but he can play wing-back or as a winger. He’s got two or three strings to his bow and he’s a fit lad."
