Will Godmon’s form for Hythe Town is justifying manager Clive Cook’s decision to change goalkeepers in the summer.

The former Chelsea youngster, who came through the academy at Maidstone, joined Hythe in the summer as Cook chose to let Joe Mant leave the club.

It wasn’t an easy decision but Godmon already looks the part at Reachfields.

Cook said: “I feel I’ve got one of the top two or three goalkeepers in the league.

“It’s one of the best bits of business I did in pre-season. That’s no disrespect to the previous goalkeeper, who was good, but this boy brings more experience. He’s got a bit more about him and I like what he does.

“He was at Maidstone and Faversham and then went to Leatherhead. He didn’t like it there, went back to Faversham and in pre-season I had a chat with him because he didn’t have a club.

“I invited him down to training because he wanted to stay active. He came down and had a good pre-season with us so I had to make a difficult decision.

“At the time you never know if it’s right or wrong but as it’s gone on, and I’m hoping it carries on, it’s a great signing.

“Manty was good for me for two or three seasons but sometimes you have to move on. I feel I’ve moved on in the right direction.”

Hythe go to Walton Casuals on Saturday looking to break into the Bostik South play-off places for the first time this season.

They beat Whyteleafe 1-0 on Saturday and Cook said: “I just want to keep our form going and keep the togetherness and see where we go from there.

“People have realised what we’re about and want to be part of it. The whole squad’s buzzing and that’s what wins and clean sheets do.”
