Proud captain James Morrish is targeting a play-off spot this season after turning down more cash elsewhere to stay with Hythe Town.

Morrish was the subject of tempting offers from rival clubs but promises of a bigger pay packet weren’t enough to turn the midfielder’s head.

He’s relishing the responsibility given to him by Cannons boss Tim Dixon and has backed his manager to get results in Ryman League Division 1 South this season.

Morrish said: "I love playing for Tim, he’s a good manager and a great guy.

"Having the armband means everything to me. I love it. That’s what makes you want to play football.

"I had a few offers in the summer, more money but I like playing for Tim and that’s why I stayed.

"I’m happy at Hythe, it’s a well-run club, I’m captain here and there’s no point leaving somewhere if you’re happy there. It’s not all about money, it’s about trying to win things.

"We’ll be aiming for the play-offs. We’ve kept the side together, added a few and now we’re working on the tactics we want to play. If we can get off to a good start, we’ll kick on from there."
