Hythe Town will move into a play-off spot tonight (Wednesday) if they win at home to Sittingbourne.

It's a remarkable position to be in given they were 10 points off the pace when Sam Denly was appointed manager in late January.

But the Cannons have won nine of Denly's 12 games in charge, taking 29 of a possible 36 points to hunt down sixth-placed Walton Casuals.

Denly said: "I was always confident in what I bring to the table and getting the best out of quality players but those are some stats.

"The boys have been absolutely outstanding. Could I have envisaged this? Probably not.

"That's championship-winning form, not play-off form, and if we wanted to get in the play-offs, we had to be playing at that level.

"We've maintained that form and all of a sudden, we're one point off it with four games to go.

"If we win on Wednesday, we go into the weekend's fixtures sitting in a play-off position so that's our goal.

"We've got ourselves in this position through hard work and the quality we've got within the dressing-room but we can't take our foot off the gas now."

Zak Ansah scored a 95th-minute winner at Greenwich on Saturday - his 14th goal in 10 games - while Casuals lost 1-0 at home to Carshalton.

"It could be a season-defining moment," said Denly. "I knew Walton had lost so you're thinking 'if we can get a win here, momentum starts to shift.' In that split-second, for Zak to finish the way he did in a crowded box, it was a massive moment.

"Since I've come in, we've been winning games and when they lose one, you want to capitalise.

"That was in the back of my mind and it would have felt like two points dropped, considering their result, so to get the winner and get the gap to one point was huge.

"I couldn't be prouder of the boys. They've bought into what I'm about and they're doing it on the pitch.

"I'm extremely proud of what we've achieved in those two months but we can't rest our laurels and think we've done the job. We've got to continue that hard work because we've given ourselves a fantastic opportunity to sneak in there."

Denly has several injury worries ahead of the Sittingbourne game.

Mitchell Dickenson is out and Charlie Webster only has a slim chance of being involved while Connor Sanders faces a late fitness test.

There are doubts over Ryan Palmer and Liam King too but Jerson Dos Santos is back after suspension.

Hythe entertain Chipstead on Saturday.
