Hythe Town are not finished in the transfer market as boss Sam Denly plots a charge for the play-offs.

Experienced centre-half Ollie Rowe is set to make his Cannons debut this weekend after signing from local rivals Ashford.

But Denly is working on more deals to strengthen his squad while other players could be set for the exit door.

"I think there might be one or two more," he said. "I'm still talking to a few players and I've put a few approaches in.

"I wouldn't say I'm finished. We've got a strong squad but I'll keep trying to improve it because we need to go on a run if we want to be up there at the end of the season.

"I'm lucky to have a very competitive budget, I know that, but it might be that one or two have to go still.

"Sometimes you've got to balance the books and (goalkeeper) Henry Newcombe went last Friday.

"There may be a few more coming and a few more going - time will tell."

Rowe's arrival bolsters a Hythe defence which has shipped 37 goals in 19 league games this season.

Denly said: "I tried to sign him in the summer so I'm really pleased to secure his signature.

"He's got a lot of experience, a good centre-half and he can play right-back as well.

"We've been shipping goals this season. There's no pointing fingers at individuals, I just think that's an area we needed to strengthen and he brings a wealth of experience.

"He signed pro forms with Brighton and he's been around the block.

"He was at Hastings for a number of years and I've always rated him."

Hythe, who didn't play last weekend, return to action with a crucial game at Reachfields on Saturday.

They're at home to a Haywards Heath side sitting one place and two points above them in the race to break into the Bostik South East top six.

Denly said: "They're all big games now. We can't afford to lose many more games.

"Our objective this season is the play-offs and that's where we need to be so it's a game we need to win.

"Our home form is decent and we'll be looking to get 2019 off to a winning start."

Nassim Dukali is a doubt and Nigel Neita will miss the game but Denly has no other concerns.

"I've probably got headaches," he said. "With Ollie coming in, we're going to be strong so there may be a few players left out.

"But that's football. We need a strong squad this season if we want to compete so there will be some difficult decisions to make."
