Hythe Town are trying to achieve something this weekend they haven’t managed all season.

Victory at East Grinstead on Saturday would give the Cannons back-to-back away wins for the first time in 2018/19 following their 3-0 triumph at Sittingbourne last weekend.

It’s been a testing campaign for manager Sam Denly but he’s rallying the troops, determined to finish strongly.

“It’ll be a difficult game,” he said. “They’ve been a bit inconsistent this season, like a lot of teams, but they’ve got some good players and a few players that have played for me as well.

“We’re away again and they’re games we want to be winning. There’s not many easy games in the league but we’ll go there almost full-strength.

“George (Kamurasi) isn’t far away either so we’ve got a good, strong squad. We’re playing some good football at the moment and we’ll be looking to get back-to-back away wins.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve done that and that’s going to be the objective on Saturday.”

Hythe are sixth in Bostik South East, nine points from the play-offs having played a game more than teams above.

Denly said: “The shackles are off. We’ve under-achieved this year so let’s enjoy the last six games.

“We’ve been trying to play a bit more free-flowing football, we’ve changed our shape slightly and there’s no pressure.

“I’ve just told the players to express themselves, which they’re doing.

“Working hard is a given. If the boys are matching teams for that, we should have enough quality to win games and that’s been better of late.”

Two players made their debuts in the win at Sittingbourne with Denly effectively using the end of this campaign as the start of pre-season.

Khanye Ryan-Makhosini, 22, started at left-back having joined from Sevenoaks Town, while former Folkestone and Whitstable midfielder Tom Walmsley came off the bench.

Denly said: “Tom’s a good, young prospect who lives in Hythe. He’s coming in for the last few games and we’ll have a proper look at him in pre-season.

“We’ve gone a little bit more attacking at the top. The defence has been decent since Ollie Rowe came in; we’ve tinkered a few things and at the moment it seems to be working well.

“On Saturday we weren’t outstanding but we got the job done. In the first half we played some really good football and the front three were linking up really well.

“That’s something we’re trying to work on. We’re trying to adapt and change things with one eye on next year.”
