Steve Watt is set to make big changes at Hythe in a bid to revive their form.

The Cannons boss has already brought in goalkeeper Henry Newcombe, midfielder Brad Schafer and forward Tyler Sterling, with Will Godmon and Noel Leighton released.

Further new faces are set to follow as Watt prepares to move more players on after a run of one win in six Isthmian South East games.

“We need to change it up, it’s not working,” said Watt, whose side lost 4-0 at Ashford on Saturday.

“They say the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same things and expecting different results.

“We’ve tried changing shape and the same things keep happening so it’s got to the stage where I think we need to change personnel.

"There will definitely be two more going this week and possibly more to follow, depending on who we can get in.

“There’s some difficult conversations to be had but that’s part and parcel of football.

“I’ve had many difficult conversations already in my management career to date and I’m still only 36.

“It’s never nice letting people go, it’s not a part of football anyone enjoys, but I’ve got to do what’s best for the club.

“I’ve never been a manager who’s happy to sit in mid-table, win one week and lose the next.

“We’ve got a squad that’s better than that but it seems to be one step forward and two back at the moment.

“A lot of it is down to basic things. You look at the Ashford game, they’ve scored from four balls into our box.

"You’ve got to defend your box better, that’s a basic of football that we’re not doing right.

“I don’t mind if we’re getting carved open but when it’s simple things like defending your box, something I took pride in as a player, I just feel we’re too easy to play against at the minute.

"The same things have been happening all season. When I look at the goals we’ve conceded, probably 80 per cent have come in similar situations.

"In open play I’m more than happy with us, we’ve looked solid and difficult to break down, but when the ball’s in our box, we’re not committed enough.

“Then again, there’s games when we’ve done that really well, but we’re just not consistent."

Hythe, 2-1 winners at Faversham on Tuesday last week, complete a tough run of away games at second-placed Haywards Heath this Saturday.

"It’ll be five away games on the bounce once we’ve been to Haywards Heath," said Watt.

“It’s not easy to get a good return from the games we’ve had but I’d expect more than four points.

“It will be tough at Haywards Heath, who are flying, but hopefully we’ll have a couple more new faces in and we’ll be able to go there and get a result.”
