Hythe manager Steve Watt is having to contend with a period like never before.

The Cannons have six Isthmian South East matches in 13 days, including four inside a week!

Still chasing a play-off place, it’s sure to be an enormous test of their squad. They drew 1-1 at home to play-off chasing Three Bridges last weekend.

Watt said: “I know players and managers that have experienced it - but I have never experienced Saturday-to-Tuesday-to-Thursday-to-Saturday.

“We will have to manage the squad as best as we can. But certain players will have to bite down and get on with it!

“Then, we get ready to keep playing until Tuesday when we will be able to get three days’ rest before another game.

“The players know my targets. We all know what we want to achieve in the next few games.

“But it’s certainly one (a spell) where we need to try and manage the squad, and call in a few favours if possible. The next couple of weeks, we have four games in seven days, then we go Saturday-to-Bank Holiday Monday.

“It’s going to be a very tough couple of weeks for the players.

“But the character the players have shown this season to keep in the hunt for making the play-offs has been incredible.”

Hythe host Beckenham tomorrow, visit title-chasing Cray Valley on Saturday and then welcome play-off chasing Herne Bay to Reachfields on Tuesday.

Watt had mixed emotions on their draw with Three Bridges as player-coach Frannie Collin converted a late penalty, awarded for handball - a third appeal for a spot-kick due to handball in the game.

“We could have had three, we got one,” he said. “The first one was on the goal-line. I felt it would have been very harsh if it was given against us.

“The second one, I felt should have been given.

“Although I’m disappointed we didn’t get all three points, a draw maybe was a fair result.”

Hythe edged a five-goal game at East Grinstead on Tuesday.

Aaron Barnes netted in the first half but they were 2-1 behind before Lex Allan equalised in the 75th minute and Troy Howard won it at the death.

They now sit eighth, 10 points off fifth-placed Chichester with five matches in hand on them.
