Hythe Town manager Nick Davis more than confident the Cannons will steer clear of danger in Isthmian South East

Nick Davis says he’s more than confident Hythe will pull clear of trouble in Isthmian South East.
Ellis Brown scored twice, including an injury-time winner, as the Cannons beat second-bottom Steyning Town 3-2 at Reachfields at the weekend.
They host Littlehampton this Saturday (3pm) looking for back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
“Hopefully we can kick on now,” said boss Davis, whose side were 18th after the weekend action.
“We’re more than confident we’re going to finish clear of that bottom four.
“We’ve played a couple more games than other sides but we need to continue to put points on the board.
“We want those first back-to-back wins.
“We’ve got the players we want now.
“We’re not the finished article and we may still need a couple more in but it’ll be a case of one in, one out.
“Nevertheless, we’ve got on paper a very good side, we’ve just got to convert that into a team.
“It’s still early in the season - we’re not even halfway through but that was a must-win game on Saturday.
“We’ve just got to look onwards and upwards.
“That was a huge three points for us.
“We’ve got seven points from the last six games, I think, and if we continue like that we’ll be more than OK.
“Four go down, which is the first time that’s happened in a long time, so it puts added pressure on anyone in that bottom 10/12 thinking they could get sucked into it.
“It adds to it but, as I said, give us time, we’ve got a good bunch in there now.”
Davis was delighted with Hythe’s performance against Steyning in difficult conditions.
Brown broke the deadlock and Vance Bola’s first Cannons goal made it 2-1 but a mistake from Brown led to Steyning’s 85th-minute equaliser.
He made amends with the winner, however, as the hosts claimed a welcome victory.
“The rain was horizontal with the wind,” said Davis.
“It’s testament to the money that’s been invested in the pitch for it not to hold any excess water but it was cutting up quite badly at the end.
“We were really brave with the way we played in those conditions - we played some exceptional football.
“I thought we were really good.
“With that weather, it’s a 50:50 game but to play the football we did was pleasing.
“It was a misplaced pass from Ellis for their second goal.
“They’d hardly had a shot in the second half but he made up for that with the winner and his first goal was brilliant, where he’s cut inside and smashed it in the bottom corner. He was a constant threat.
“We breathed a sigh of relief at the end.
“It was a rollercoaster game - we went through every emotion on the bench watching it.
“We’ve had a tough run of games but we’ve got to beat the sides that are in and around us.”
