Wesley Shrubsole angling: Eel numbers are increasing after years of overfishing and disease

It's always nice to report some good news and things are looking up for the eel.
This fish has been taken to near extinction by overfishing and disease with many areas not recording a single fish.
Now though, far from back at the old levels, they are being caught in numbers.
The wriggler in the photo was one of sixteen caught off a jetty in North Kent.

Anglers now return their eels to fight again and with luck this mysterious fish will keep giving us sport long into the future.
