Boss Nick Davis says Hythe must find a way to start getting results on the road.
The Cannons have picked up just one point from 10 away games in Isthmian South East this season.
It’s a record they’ll need to improve to avoid being over-reliant on home form to get them out of trouble.
Davis’ side, who are two points from safety, visit East Grinstead this Saturday (3pm) in their final game before Christmas.
“We’ve only got the one point away from home which is not good enough,” said Davis.
“We’re going to have to change that and change it very quickly.
“You look at the table, we’ve played three of the top five away, but we do need to start picking up some points away from home.
“I’ve watched East Grinstead and we know how they set up.
“They work very hard, they’re well-organsied but it’s a game we need to try and get something from.
“We’ll try to win the game but we’re going to set up a little bit differently going forward, especially away from home, and try and nick what we can.”
Hythe lost 2-0 at home to Burgess Hill last weekend as their opponents climbed into the play-off places.
New signing Javaun Splatt missed a penalty with the game goalless and the visitors made the most of the let-off.
But Davis could take heart from the performance.
“I thought we played well,” he said.
“The heads went down a bit after we missed the penalty but on another day we put a couple of our chances away and get something from it.
“Unfortunately we didn’t but I can’t fault the efforts on Saturday, where the week before I could have done away at Three Bridges (3-0 defeat). It was a vast improvement.
“Burgess Hill are doing well, you could see the strength they’ve got on their bench.
“They’re obviously looking to really compete this year.
“You’ve got Sittingbourne and Ramsgate and then a group of four or five and you’d put them in that.
“On that showing, I think that’s the case.
“I was just encouraged with the performance. Not happy with the result but encouraged with the performance, against a top-five side.”
Splatt may have missed from the spot, and the subsequent rebound, but showed how effective he can be for Hythe.
“He just gives us a different dimension,” Davis said.
“We played a bit differently to how we have been and I think that will hopefully put us in good stead going forward as the pitches are not going to be as good as they are now.”
