Hythe Town are on the verge of three new signings although boss Clive Cook insists he won’t go mad in the transfer market this summer.
Cook has already landed winger Ryan Palmer from Ashford United and more players are on their way to Reachfields.
But with more money being spent in the Ryman League than ever before, the Cannons manager is happy to go into next season with a largely unchanged squad.
Cook said: "It’s gone a little bit mad with money.
"People are after cricket scores all the time but I suppose that’s just the way it’s gone from the very top. It gradually filters down into the lower levels.
"Ryan’s exciting. He ticks my boxes, he’s a nice lad and wants to win. He wants to deliver and that’s what I liked about him when we met.
"He wants to win things and feels he can do better than he’s already done. He’s done well, albeit in the Southern Counties East League but let’s see what he can do now.
"He’s got a good base to start with and he makes the squad stronger. I’m pleased with that one and I’m working hard on three others.
"I should have them over the line this week and that’ll be me done.
"I’ve been taking my time. I haven’t gone as mad as I have done in the past.
"I’m talking to lots of players but only (want to sign) the ones I feel can develop the squad.
"I’m keeping 13/14 players from last year and the three or four I want to bring in will strengthen us massively.
"I’m excited but also it’s a little bit more pressure.
"Let other teams do what they need to do and we’ll worry about ourselves."
