On the eve of Hythe’s first ever trip to White Hart Lane on Saturday, content Clive Cook says his side are a match for anyone.

Town face a trip into the unknown when they visit Haringey Borough of Ryman League, Division 1 North in the FA Trophy preliminary round (3pm).

Borough play at the Coles Park Stadium which is on White Hart Lane, just down the road from the home of Tottenham Hotspur, with Cook admitting: “We don’t know anything about them and we’ve not seen them and they don’t know us – that should make it an intriguing game.

“I do know, though, that if we play how I know we can, then we can beat anyone.”

He added: “The Walton Casuals game in the FA Cup, when we were winning with four minutes to go and lost – still hurts. It was unbelievable. We’re looking to avenge that.

“If you can’t have a good Cup run then the Trophy is the next best thing. It’s a good chance to get some money into the club.

“The biggest thing for us is, of course, the league. We are still massively hurting at what we went through at the end of last season. There is a long way to go but we want to put that right.”

Saturday’s 2-0 win at Tooting & Mitcham took Town into the top four in Ryman League, Division 1 South after a sixth straight league win.

Cook said: “We played well and never looked in any real trouble. Tooting are a decent side and not many teams will go there and win.

“We were missing Liam King and Dave Cook but it didn’t show – 12 months ago it would have done. It shows how far we’ve come in that year. We’ve taken a couple of steps forward.”

He added: “Of course, I look at the table, all the time, it’s part of my job. It’s nice to be up there but it doesn’t mean anything at this point.”

Cook took over at Hythe 12 months ago and admitted: “I am happy how the year has
gone.

“It’s an enjoyable place to be, the lads are all working hard in training, everyone is chomping at the bit to be involved and it’s a happy camp.

“There is good camaraderie and they are working hard for each other. You have to make the most of times like these.”
