Hythe boss Clive Cook insists he is not fazed by Town’s downturn in league fortunes, though he hopes they can get back to winning ways against Walton Casuals on Wednesday.
Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Greenwich Borough means Town have taken just one point from their past three games in Ryman League, Division 1 South, although they had won nine straight games before that run.
The Cannons face another testing clash with a trip to play-off chasing Casuals (7.45pm) – facing the Surrey side for the third time in less than two months.
Cook said: “I am a bit bored of playing them if I’m honest. They are a good side and have a good young manager but with the FA Cup (defeat) and FA Trophy (win), it’s the third time we have played them in a matter of weeks.
“There are no easy games and this is no exception – away from home on an artificial pitch on a Wednesday night with a small crowd and little atmosphere. It’s one of them.”
Town were twice pegged back by second-placed Greenwich Borough on Saturday and had to settle for a point, having gone down 1-0 to a late penalty against leaders Dorking Wanderers at Reachfields four days earlier.
Cook said: “It was a good game but was it the right result? We missed a penalty and maybe did enough to get the three points.
“They are a good side and well managed. It was most important to keep the gap to them the same at worst.
“We missed chances to have won both games and it came back to bite us but I’m happy with where we are at the moment. I’m happy to be in the pack, if we’d won both games then we would have been having a different conversation and it’s still early in the season – there is a long way to go.
“It only takes a couple of results to go against you and another team to pick up a couple and all of a sudden a big gap has closed like that.”
