Jack Green will run the 400m Hurdles for TeamGB at the World Championships in Beijing later this month after successfully appealing his omission from the original squad.
Hythe star Green - who was originally named in the squad for the 4x400m relay but not his individual event - travelled to Loughborough to prove his fitness on Tuesday after sustaining a knee injury in a heavy fall in a hurdles race in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 6.
Despite an almost two year absence from the sport after illness and injury, Green leapt back to the top of the GB rankings this season after spending the winter training with acclaimed coach Loren Seagrave in Florida.
The 23-year-old’s season’s best time of 49.31secs came in mid-May in the Doha Diamond League meeting, and despite the mark coming near the start of the season, only one other Brit has beaten it since.
Green’s time was 0.19secs inside the UKA qualifying standard for the World Championships and he chose to appeal the decision not to grant him an individual spot in the event, at which he reached the semi-finals of the London 2012 Olympics and the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, Korea.
The former Brockhill School and Saltwood Primary pupil said: “I am pleased my appeal to be included in the individual event was successful. I’m now looking forward to putting on the GB vest once again and just want to focus on producing the best possible performance I can.”
The heats of the 400m Hurdles are on the morning of Monday, August 24, with the semi-finals the evening of the following day and the final on Thursday evening, August 27.
Green has been chosen for the 4x400m relay competition, which begins on the Thursday, and concludes the following day, with Kent AC’s Conrad Williams also on the six-man list.
