DESPITE the obvious disappointment of FA Cup elimination at the hands of Kent League rivals VCD Athletic, Hythe Town manager Paul Fisk refuses to worried by the defeat.
The club’s money men will no doubt miss the extra £3,000 prize money a win would have generated, but Fisk has other things on his mind, writes ALEX BIRCH.
“As far as the first half performance goes on Tuesday night, it was the best we’ve played for a long time,” he admitted. “We didn’t give them a sniff.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t get the goal we needed when we were on top. That’s always a worry and their first goal was a killer after we’d played so well.
“It’s disappointing to lose, however, we were never going to win the cup and the next tie at East Thurrock wasn’t the most attractive of games. So we’ll take the performance and move onto Sporting Bengal at the weekend.”Considering Sporting’s feeble reputation when it comes to picking up wins, you could forgive the Hythe players for thinking Saturday will be an easy ride.
Fisk is adamant, however, that despite their reputation, playing Sporting Bengal involves a headache or two.“Normally when we go there it can be difficult,” he explained. “You’re expected to win and ideally you need an early goal to settle things down.“We are not the sort of team to turn up there thinking we’ve already won though. You only have to look how Holmesdale struggled last week against them.”Tom Adlington (hamstring), Mark Bond (ankle) and Gavin Ransley (ankle) are all likely to miss Saturday’s encounter, with skipper Ransley expected to be out for a few weeks.
