Hythe Town manager Nick Davis enjoys chance to interact with supporters at fans’ forum

Manager Nick Davis welcomed the chance to speak to Hythe supporters at a forum on Monday night.

About 60 Cannons fans attended the meeting at Reachfields, where they heard from chairman Matt Smith and chief executive Gary Johnson, as well as Davis.

The Cannons are fighting for survival in Isthmian South East and it was good for fans to learn more about the club’s plans and the issues they’ve faced this season.

“It went well,” said Davis. “We went through some things and had a Q&A session.

“Matt presented what’s happening at the club and some future plans with regard to the youth and under-23s and went through what’s been put in place since he’s come in.

“We all had a little introduction and some questions thrown at us.

“It was a worthwhile night and we had a good chat with some individuals afterwards.

“It’s something that should be done two or three times a season, to be honest, to keep everyone in the loop.”

Davis was able to explain the challenges he’s faced since succeeding Sammy Moore in August.

He added: “The fans were asking about players and training and the location of where we do things.

“Supporters, or anyone from the outside, don’t know the ins and outs of the issues we might have.

“It was just an insight into some of the problems we’ve had along the way and a bit of an eye-opener for some.

“People look at results, which are the most important thing, but there’s a lot more stuff that goes on behind the scenes.”

Hythe’s game at Littlehampton last weekend was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, as was last night’s trip to East Grinstead.

The Cannons host Three Bridges at Reachfields this Saturday (3pm).

The Sussex side have pulled clear of trouble in recent weeks, having been below Hythe in the table not so long ago.

Davis’ men played poorly in a 3-0 defeat in the away game before Christmas and are looking to make amends.

“We were really bad that day, so we do owe them one,” said Davis, whose side are seven points from safety with games in hand.

“We’ve got three home games on the bounce and we need to go on a run.

“We need a win and that will make a massive difference to us.

“We played well against Margate in our last home game, even though we lost 3-2.

“We were very good and should have got something out of it.

“We caused all sorts of problems and had loads of chances.”
