Sammy Moore is confident he will be able to to take his regular place in the AFC Wimbledon line-up for Monday’s FA Cup third round televised home clash with Liverpool.
The 27-year-old former Dover Athletic midfielder is the Dons’ longest-serving player but has missed their last two games in League 2 after contracting a virus.
Moore, who comes from Deal and now lives in Hythe, said: “I have been back training this week and the gaffer (Neal Ardley) has said in the press that he wants to get me fit for Monday, so hopefully I will be playing."
And the former Charlton Athletic youth player, who made his 100 League appearance for Wimbledon earlier this season, added: “It will be the biggest game of my career because I have never played against a club as famous as Liverpool before.
“You watch the likes of Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling on telly every week and it will be a dream come true to play against them, but we mustn’t show them too much respect because if we do they will just pick us off. We’ve got to work hard and really get in their faces.”
The Dons have reached the third round of the competition for the first time since they were formed in 2002, and Moore said: “Since the draw everybody has been talking about 1988 (when the original Wimbledon FC beat Liverpool in the FA Cup final), and if we can take any chances that come our way then who knows what might happen?”
