Ryan Palmer is facing one of the biggest decisions of his football career.
After two seasons at Hythe Town, the former Ashford winger is a free agent with several clubs already showing interest.
But the 28-year-old has a very clear idea about what his next move should look like.
Palmer said: "I feel like I'm at my peak. I’ve gained a lot of experience, leadership on the pitch, consistency in my performance and I want to win things.
"I don’t want to waste time somewhere I feel might not match the expectations I have as a player. I’m at an age where incentives, professionalism and the team around me need to also be in the same mind frame as myself.
"If you find yourself in a working environment which isn’t that great, or doesn’t have much energy or productivity, you’re not going to be happy there. It’s similar with football. I want to be in a place where it’s hungry and passionate to kick on and win things and it’s got that drive there from everyone in the club."
Hythe finished 11 points outside the Bostik South East play-offs this season and Palmer's one of several players to have since left the club.
"I’ve had quite a few offers," he said. "A couple of managers are going to ring me during the week but where I’ve been on contract or a club agreement for the last four years, a lot of people may not know my whereabouts or if I’m available. When you’re on contract, a lot of managers are quite sceptical to touch those players because they can then go into breaching that loyalty with clubs.
"I’m at a stage in my life where we’ve got to make sure both needs are met from my end and the club. That way, we can move forward with both parties being happy and fully committed to the upcoming season.
"This move is very important for me. I had some amazing times at Ashford when we won things and came very close to winning things at Hythe, so I’m hungry for titles and I’m hungry for silverware.
"This next step is very important because I’m not a player to move about. When I play for someone, I commit. It’s my job, I represent myself and I represent the club that I play for so when I sign for someone, I bring everything, the whole package.
"It’s an important year and I’m not going to be rushing this decision."
Palmer plays the game with a smile on his face but he's deadly serious about being successful.
He said: "In football, we always play to enjoy the game.
"It’s the game we love, the game we grew up playing and watching but at the same time, it’s a competition and I’m in it to win it.
"I want titles and I want silverware because that’s what you really look back on, those big days. I want more of those days and it’s important the team that I go to has the same drive and hopefully with that I can be an asset to that team, push forward with that team and hopefully achieve those personal and club goals."
