Tim Dixon has revealed his position as Hythe manager was in doubt last week when the club’s board met to discuss his future.
Hythe have struggled since Dixon took over from Scott Porter last May and they went into Saturday’s game against Faversham just five points above the relegation zone.
The board of directors came together on Thursday and decided Dixon should carry on in the role.
He was told about the meeting the next morning, shared the news with his players before the Faversham clash and they responded in style by turning in one of their best performances since Dixon arrived, winning 2-1.
Dixon said: "They had a meeting on Thursday. I didn’t know about it but they discussed whether it was time for a change.
"That’s what you get when you’re down at the bottom. It’s a results business and they’ve put their faith in me to build a new team at Hythe.
"Questions are asked when you’re not performing and I told the players that. I told them it could be my last game. That’s how I said it to them – that if we don’t start getting results, they might have a new manager.
"They fought and battled and we won 2-1. Whether that was a response, or it was coming anyway, I don’t know. But there was a lot of determination and people putting themselves on the line."
