Mo Takaloo’s second goal since his move from Margate gave Hythe Town a 1-0 win against Croydon on Saturday, further strengthening their position at the top of the Bulmers Cider Kent League Premier Division.
Much as Takaloo’s goal was important, the contribution of Pat Kingwell and Gavin Ransley at the back also played a massive part in securing Paul Fisk’s side a clean sheet and three points.
Croydon, with more than a passing resemblance to Holmesdale since their change in management, came to Reachfields a stronger, fitter and more organised side from the one Hythe beat 2-1 back in November.
This was proved during the first half as Croydon made Hythe’s defence work while giving the home midfield little time to settle on the ball. They also created the best chances of the half, both of which fell to Tony Atkins. Unfortunately for the visitors, the striker was wasteful.
Roy Guiver’s introduction at the start of the second half allowed Hythe to become more threatening, but it was strike partner Takaloo who drew the plaudits as he received a pass from Kingwell before volleying the winner past Croydon 'keeper Tim Roberts.
