Hythe Town have signed full-back Lewis Mingle but his former Tunbridge Wells team-mate Andy Irvine won’t be following him to Reachfields.

Mingle completed his move on Tuesday and Hythe boss Tim Dixon revealed he had also been in talks with centre-forward Irvine. But the target man’s agreed to join another club, so Dixon’s hunt for a striker to replace Shaun Welford goes on.

Dixon said: "I met with Andy after I saw that he was leaving Tunbridge Wells. He’d have been pretty decent up front for us because he’s scored goals wherever he’s been.

"But I’m still looking for attacking options and when you’re looking for strikers, they’re few and far between."

Mingle, who played alongside Irvine for Tunbridge Wells in the 2013 FA Vase final at Wembley, is Hythe’s second new signing of the summer.

Dixon said: "He was at Maidstone United and the only reason he didn’t progress was that he had a fantastic full-back in front of him in Tom Mills. He’s played first-team football at Tunbridge Wells and did well in their Vase run.

"He played under Jay Saunders at Maidstone, so he’s had good grounding, a good start, with regards his career. He’s a former boxer as well, so he’s disciplined."
