Manager Steve Watt says Hythe only have themselves to blame for their inconsistent results in Isthmian South East.
The Cannons were on course for back-to-back wins for the first time this season when Johan Caney-Bryan gave them a third-minute lead at Haywards Heath on Saturday.
But they paid the price for missing a host of chances as the hosts recovered to win 2-1.
It was a familiar tale for Hythe as they failed to turn a decent performance into points.
“I don’t know what to say,” said Watt, whose side dropped to 16th following the defeat.
“I’m sick of saying the same old stuff. They had three shots on goal and scored two goals, one of them being a penalty.
“We just seem to make silly mistakes and get punished.
“We’ve had two free headers from four yards that we haven’t scored, we’ve had two cleared off the line and goalmouth scrambles where we haven’t stuck the ball in the net.
“I’ve never wanted to be a team who come off with the opposition saying what a good side we are, but we’ve lost the game.
"I’d rather they were moaning about how bad we are but we don’t care because we’ve won 3-1.
“It’s so frustrating. I’d almost prefer to get beat 6-1. I know that sounds stupid but at least then you can come away saying, ‘Yes, they were better than us, we deserved to lose that game’.
“I can go through a lot of our games and say, ‘How have we lost that?’ or ‘How we have we not won that?’ but it’s all should have, could have and I don’t want to be that manager.
“I don’t want to come across as ‘poor us’ because that’s not the case. It’s our fault we’ve not got the points we should have.
“Whether it’s individual errors or not taking chances, we’ve got to be better in both boxes. It’s only us who can change it.”
Hythe host VCD in a 1pm kick-off this Saturday and welcome Sheppey on Tuesday (7.45pm).
