Manager Steve Watt is urging Hythe’s players to show what they achieved last season wasn’t a one-off.
The Cannons reached the Isthmian South East Play-off Final - only to be denied promotion at Whitehawk.
There’s been changes this summer at Reachfields, goalkeeper Adam Molloy and ex-Margate left-back Taylor Fisher coming in, while midfielder Marvin Hamilton has left and defender Jason Fregene has joined Isthmian Premier Hastings.
Watt, who cannot remember such amounts of money being spent at Step 4 and 5 previously, said: “It’s going to be another tough season if you look at who others are signing.
“But it’s no different for us. Last year was massive, but the challenge this year is to show it was not a one-off.
“I’m sure, if we do, we will have another good season.”
Fisher, who has also played for Dartford and Sittingbourne, was named the Brickies’ supporters’ player-of-the-year, manager’s player-of-the-year and players’ player-of-the-year at the end of 2021/22 but the youngster endured an injury-hit time at Hartsdown Park.
“He’s a good signing,” Watt noted. “He’s a player we tried to sign before last season but he wanted to play higher.
“We weren’t able to do that. Last year, he had a tough season with injuries.
“Last year, we didn’t have a natural left-sider. We tried all season but a natural fit never came up.
“I’m delighted Taylor has come in and I think we will be a great fit for him.
“I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Watt is also enjoying working with recently-appointed Hythe chairman Gary Johnson.
“He’s been a breath of fresh air,” said the 38-year-old boss, who still wants to strengthen his midfield and his attacking options.
“He seems really hands-on. I think he will be very good. It’s something I think the club needed - a little bit of different ideas.
“I’m looking forward to working with Gary.”
