A £3.5 million new ‘family entertainment centre’ at a major shopping complex promising “a taste of modern Los Angeles” has confirmed it plans to open in August.
Work on the Hollywood Bowl site at the Westwood Cross shopping centre is continuing and will deliver 22 ten-pin bowling lanes, amusements - including Mario Kart and air hockey - and an American-style bar and diner.
The Broadstairs site, housed in the former Debenhams store, will also feature four “luxurious VIP lanes” for bowling fans.
Originally due to open in the autumn of 2023, its opening was delayed, but bosses now say it will open “towards the beginning of August”.
Once fully up and running it says it expects to create 40 new jobs.
Alex Poole, centre manager at Hollywood Bowl Westwood Cross, said: “This is set to be a fantastic new family entertainment centre which will bring modern LA bowling entertainment to life right here in Broadstairs.
“Hollywood Bowl has built a strong reputation for delivering affordable family experiences across the UK and we can’t wait to welcome all ages and abilities to have fun and make memories together in our new state-of-the-art bowling centre during the summer holidays.”
The site was vacated when Debenhams, one of Westwood Cross’ anchor tenants collapsed in 2021 with the closure of its stores.
Since then, the Riparo Lounge has opened in part of the complex - but Hollywood Bowl will be the major tenant.
