Arriva has spent £600,000 on five new buses equipped with Wi-Fi.

The bus operator said they will bring new standards of comfort to passengers in Medway.

Passengers will be able to use the free Wi-Fi connection to access the internet via their laptops and smart phones.

The company has spent nearly £14 million on new and refurbished buses in North and Mid Kent in the past eight years.

The new buses are assigned to service 116 serving Chatham, Hempstead Valley, the universities, Mid Kent College, Gillingham town centre, Medway Maritime Hospital and Rainham.

The buses are branded X-BUS 116 with new vinyls to draw attention to the service.

Managing director Heath Williams, said: "I'm delighted that we have once again been able to make a major investment in new buses for the Medway Towns.

"The innovative use of free Wi-Fi on board will, I'm sure, be particularly useful to those with smart phones who will now be able to use the internet whilst on the way to school, college, work or shopping."

Wi-Fi is also being introduced on the Medway-Maidstone service.
