A snapshot of the county's economic recovery following the impact of the health crisis has been launched - providing a host of data on how businesses are responding to the challenges.

The Economic Recovery Dashboard provides a range of indicators designed to "support and driver Kent and Medway's recovery from Covid-19" and has now gone live via Kent County Council's website.

The free service aims to provide an "invaluable source" of information for business, public and voluntary agencies.

By combining a host of data, both nationally and locally, it allows users to see everything from business survival rates to the numbers of staff still on furlough and in which sectors.

Included is modelled estimates from the Office for National Statistic's business impact of Covid-19 survey as well as take up of the various government-backed support schemes.

It is also possible to get local geographic data with a 'vulnerability' index based on local authorities.

Kent County Council cabinet member for economic development, Mike Whiting, said: “The Economic Recovery Dashboard is a vital piece of the recovery jigsaw in Kent and Medway providing real insight and understanding of how our local economy and our business sectors are faring as we emerge from lockdown.

“Data from the dashboard will help us target and measure interventions as we work with partners across the county to deliver our Kent and Medway Resilience and Renewal Plan and drive economic recovery.”

Cllr Rodney Chambers, Medway Council’s portfolio holder for inward investment, strategic regeneration and partnerships, added: “The dashboard will help identify the possible impact on local economies and the areas which may be most at risk, giving us greater opportunity to target our support to the most vulnerable places. This information will be invaluable in planning for recovery and helping our economy grow.

“We will continue to do all we can to provide our residents and businesses with support and opportunities, and to build a sustainable future.”
