Ferry passengers heading to Dunkirk from Dover will be able to cash-in on savings when a new duty-free store opens in the French port next week.

The new shop will be followed hot its the heels by another in Calais. Both will be operated by ferry firm DFDS which operates sailings to both ports.

Duty-free - once a hugely popular lure for travellers from Kent to pop over to the continent on day-trippers or non-landers - returned in January this year following our departure from the EU.

It means British passengers travelling to EU countries will be able to buy duty-free alcohol and tobacco products at ports, international railway stations and airports and when on-board.

It could mean savings of up to 50% on some goods and the amount you can buy is restricted.

The Dunkirk shop will open on Monday, October 4. The Calais outlet is expected to open in a few weeks.

DFDS won the tender to operate the stores with the second to be within the new port terminal at Calais.

Eurotunnel passengers will also be able to take advantage after it worked with World Duty Free to offer stores on its route between Folkestone and Conquelles in France.
