An eco laundry and cleaning product firm - hit by a huge blaze which destroyed £1million of stock just three years ago - has landed a £700,000 contract to export to Vietnam.

Ecoegg, based in Gillingham, will see its range sold in over 500 stores across the country.

It marks another boost to the firm which has an annual turnover of £4.5million and currently exports to over 40 countries worldwide.

The firm is known for its Laundry Egg product - a replacement for detergent and fabric conditioner without the harsh chemicals.

The egg, which is put into the washing machine with the clothes, contains pellets that lifts the dirt away.

Ecoegg’s international sales has grown from £30,000 in 2014/15 to an expected £2.5m this financial year.

It predicts further growth to £5m by 2023.

The Vietnam deal came after it received support form the Department for International Trade (DIT).

It provided the company with advice and relevant market information which helped Ecoegg to understand the dynamic and rapidly growing south east Asian market.

The new deal will see the company’s laundry and cleaning products sold in over 500 retail locations across Vietnam via Harpo Food, Seika Mart and Vinmart stores which is estimated to increase the business’s annual turnover by 20%.

Simon Weavers, sales director at Ecoegg said: “This deal is an exciting new development for us with a distributor who we traded with around two years ago. It is great to be expanding our exports in the Vietnamese market which has some of the most socially conscious consumers in the Asia-Pacific region."

Ben Raby, head of region for the south east at the DIT, added: “The global laundry detergent market is big business and according to recent research the market is expected to be worth a staggering $215.3billion by 2026. Ecoegg is making the most of the international opportunities that this market presents and is showcasing British products and expertise on a global stage.

“With its export sales increasing by more than 8000% in just five years, Ecoegg’s international success is a prime example of what can be achieved when businesses look to overseas markets for growth."

In 2016, Ecoegg suffered a major setback as a fire destroyed its offices and warehouse where £1m worth of stock was stored. Following this the company relocated from Maidstone to Gillingham and managed to fulfil orders again within just three months.
