A recruitment and training firm has opened a new office in Canterbury, creating eight jobs.

MiddletonMurray has set itself a target of finding careers for 1,000 people in Kent within three years in a bid to tackle youth unemployment.

The company is moving into Canterbury Innovation Centre at the University of Kent to be close to graduates, as well as schools and employers.

General manager Janet Robinson said: “Whilst unemployment figures in the region are falling, youth unemployment remains high at over 28 percent for people aged 18 to 24.

“We have a clear goal to reduce that figure by 1,000 and it’s important to be based in the heart of the community to engage with job seekers.

“Canterbury is a national icon and working closely with people not in education, employment or training and graduates we want to show what a thriving place it can be for people to start their careers.”

The move for the Sidcup-based company follows the opening of an office in Sandwich last year.

The firm employs 86 people and a network of freelance trainers.
