Herne Bay Sport Hub: State-of-the-art 3G hockey pitches officially opened on site of former golf club

The first phase of the Herne Bay Sports Hub has been officially opened.

The unveiling of the hockey pitches on the site of the former Herne Bay Golf Club, provides a long-awaited new home for Herne Bay Hockey Club after years without a permanent ground.

The launch was attended by Mark Quinn, CEO of Quinn Estates, Sir Roger Gale, MP for Thanet North; Cllr Mark Dance, cabinet member for economic development at Kent County Council and representatives from the local hockey, rugby, football and cricket clubs.

Installing state-of-the-art 3G pitches they are the same quality as many of the venues at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Developer Mark Quinn said: “This first phase will provide world class facilities for years to come while, at the same time, maintaining the club’s reputation as a strong contender in Kent.

The next phase of the hub will see work starting on the cricket pitch in February to March next year.

Subsequent phases will provide new tennis facilities, including courts and a clubhouse.
