A forum giving crucial guidance on how firms can guard against cyber crime and online crooks takes place later this month.

The annual Kent Cyber Security Forum will be a free, virtual event featuring a panel of experts discussing the key issues.

The event is hosted by the University of Kent's new Institute of Cyber Security for Society (iCSS). Key topics include how to stay safe online against cyber criminals, how cyber attacks are investigated, and how to avoid the dangers of false information online.

The iCSS was established in January and is one of only 19 'academic centres of excellence in cyber security research' in the UK, as recognised by the National Cyber Security Centre and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

Those attending via Zoom will be able to learn more about the iCSS while it is set to attract those working in industry, the public sector, SMEs without dedicated cyber security teams, and higher education and research institutions.

Among those taking part will be Professor Shujun Li, professor of cyber security at the university's School of Computing.

Professor Li said: "We are delighted to be launching iCSS at this year’s Kent Cyber Security Forum, as we look to excel our activities in interdisciplinary cyber security research and education. We look forward to welcoming participants of the event and I believe they will be able to learn more about cyber threats in the current online landscape and how to protect against them."
