Civil engineer Nigel Earnshaw has been appointed the new chair of the Kent branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD).

He takes over from interim chair Jules Quested-Williams, director of Built for Marketing.

A chartered director and fellow of the IoD, Mr Earnshaw started his career in construction, building roads, tunnels and sea defences. He later held senior roles and delivered capital investment programmes in the water and airport industries.

He will work on behalf of around 750 members from industries ranging from agriculture and engineering to banking and financial services.

After his appointment he said: “It’s been an extremely challenging 12 months for all of us and the IoD will play a key role in ensuring directors are equipped with the skills and contacts needed to lead business recovery. A thriving business community is vital for generating the wealth we need for the society we want to live in.”

Faisal Khan, regional chair of IoD South, said: “I’m delighted that Nigel is taking on this important role at the helm of one of our largest branches, which represents a truly diverse business base.

“His considerable experience will be invaluable as we engage with businesses, local authorities and education providers to build better directors and a prosperous business community.”
