Almost 20 jobs are going at cross-Channel operator LD Lines.

The jobs will be lost when the fast ferry between Dover and Bolougne is replaced on November 11.

The seacat Norman Arrow is transferring to the Portsmouth - Le Havre route, some positions have been kept but the company has said it regrets the fleet switch will result in some redundancies.

Nineteen employees, mainly cabin crew, will go.

To replace the Norman Arrow, the Norman Spirit is going to take over the cross-Channel route.

It is a bigger vessel that can carry more freight and tourist traffic.

In a statement the firm said: "That despite the loss of some jobs during this winter period fleet switch, that future employment opportunities will become available during 2010 seasonal operational periods of both the Norman Spirit (Dover - Boulogne) and Norman Arrow (Portsmouth - Le Havre) services."
