Ever fancied stepping back in time for your holiday? Then the first Dickensian-themed cottage to rent could be just what you are looking for.

Owners hope those staying at the cottage in Broadstairs will come with great expectations after they completely refurbished the building in Victorian style.

Inside Fagin's Cottage in Broadstairs

The two-bedroomed Fagin's Den in Church Road boasts furniture, memorabilia, books, games and artwork to help re-create the era - with a wardrobe even provided for holiday-makers to dress up as a variety of characters from Oliver Twist.

There's no TV - as befits the era - but, in a nod to the demands of the modern age, there is Wifi.

The property is managed by The Fishermen's Cottages, which also rent out a host of other properties in the town.

It explains: "Built in the 1860s, the cottage has been completely refurbished in Victorian style. It’s a truly unique holiday experience.

"Families, friends and Dickens enthusiasts alike can all enjoy the experience. There's also an adult quiz and a children’s treasure hunt to find Fagin’s hidden stash."

You'll need more than just a Victorian wage to stay in the cottage, which sleeps up to four, though.

One week's rental for a peak week in August will set you back £980.

Charles Dickens, who lived for many years in Higham, regularly stayed in Broadstairs, writing David Copperfield during one of his stays at Fort House - subsequently renamed Bleak House in honour of the writer.
