A proposed Paramount-themed resort in Kent is set to include rides based on shows like Doctor Who after a deal was struck with the BBC.
The developers behind the project have struck a deal with BBC Worldwide to feature attractions based on the broadcaster’s intellectual property.
It means some of the best-loved programmes on British television could feature alongside attractions based on Paramount Pictures films like Mission: Impossible, Star Trek, The Godfather and The Italian Job.
The £2bn London Paramount Entertainment Resort is earmarked to open in Easter 2020, creating 27,000 jobs.
A planning application for the project, set to be built on the Swanscombe Peninsula between Gravesend and Dartford, is due to be submitted next year.
London Resort Company Holdings director David Testa, whose company is behind the project, said: “We are delighted to bring the world’s leading public service broadcaster on board this project.
“The BBC has played an instrumental role in shaping the British entertainment industry for nearly a century, creating some of the most iconic and cherished characters on TV and radio.
“It seems only right therefore that its programmes will be present at the new London Paramount Entertainment Resort, which will combine the glamour of Hollywood with the best of British culture.”
BBC Worldwide director of live events Stephen Davies said: “We’re always looking for opportunities to extend fans’ enjoyment of their favourite shows and the idea behind this resort is a really exciting way of celebrating the very special place the BBC has in British culture.”
Paramount Pictures executive vice president of parks and resorts Mike Bartok said: “It is outstanding to be working with a globally recognised brand with such a rich, respected history. We see London Paramount as a pioneer in the delivery of an outstanding partnership entertainment experience.”
The resort already has a deal in place with Paramount Pictures, the oldest major Hollywood studio in existence, which will give it access to more than 3,000 films.
