A government scheme to help boost the number of HGV drivers is up and running with the hope it will help ease the recruitment crisis.
Supply chains have been hit throughout the year by a drop in the number of lorry drivers - fuelled by a combination of Covid wiping out tests for those wanting to qualify in 2020, an exodus of European workers due to Brexit and what many see as the 'neglect' of the sector over recent years.
Now the government is rolling out a Skills Bootcamp - which will be delivered through a number of providers across Kent - which is open to anyone of any skill level.
Existing HGV drivers can also use the training to upgrade their licence category while those who have been away from the sector can receive refresher and professional development courses to help them to return to driving.
The project is supported by local and national employers and each trainee is guaranteed an interview for a genuine job opportunity.
Those interested in taking part can find out more at their local JobCentre
