SECURITY guards at Eurostar’s Ashford terminal start a two-day strike on Friday in a row over pay.

Staff belonging to the Rail Maritime and Transport Workers Union (RMT) will stop work between 7am and 10.30am on Friday and Saturday unless they can reach an agreement with their employers, security company Chubb.

Chubb said talks with the union are continuing, but the RMT said the dispute had not been resolved.

Spokesman Derek Kotz said: "We are ready to talk but there are no plans for further talks that I am aware of."

The strike is expected to involve about 100 security guards in Ashford and London.

Eurostar’s director of communications Paul Charles said services would not be affected.

He said Chubb had thousands of other trained workers they could call on to replace the strikers.

However, Mr Kotz said the union was worried Chubb would be calling on people who did not have enough training to do sensitive security work.
