A LEADING advisory service for people with disabilities wishing to start self-employment or their own business, has been launched in Kent.
The Business Ability programme is free and confidential and the programme is tailored to each individual’s needs. It lasts an average of 3-4 months and is provided by an experienced team assisting with issues such as assessment of business ideas, advice on benefits and disability support, help in securing grants, access to training, business planning support, test marketing, and ongoing mentoring support.
Alice Price, business advisor for Kent, said: “Self-employment can be a very rewarding form of work since it offers more flexibility than other forms of employment. This service provides both practical and financial advice to people who otherwise may encounter barriers due to their disabilities or health problems.”
The service is provided throughout the South East by a team of business advisors supporting clients throughout the programme, often by home visits.
Business Ability is run by the disability organisation Enham, in association with the Prince’s Trust and other voluntary organisations. It has helped set up over 300 businesses with an estimated annual turnover of £6m.
