Businesses that serve breakfast to visitors are being urged to use more local produce.

Kent Breakfast is a campaign designed to encourage them to provide 60% of the eggs, bacon, sausage, bread and other ingredients from the Garden of England.

Workshops will be held later this year for hotels, B&Bs, pubs, restaurants and cafes interested in signing up.

Advice will be given on how to order local produce and alternatives to commonly used non-Kent produce.

Business owners will be told how to market the Kent Breakfast and gain real financial and image benefits from the scheme.

"We are looking to create a fantastic selling point for those serving breakfast in Kent which will then bring them rewards in terms of their ability to market themselves as somewhere to visit that provides a real taste of the county," said Liz Sibilia, of Visit Kent, joint promoter of the scheme with Produced in Kent.

"There is plenty of evidence from similar schemes elsewhere in the UK that visitors really do seek out businesses using local produce on their menus. What we hope to do is to make it easy for our tourism businesses to do that and then to help them market it to visitors."

The first workshop is on Wednesday, October 24 at Penshurst Place, with a second on November 14 at Brogdale, Faversham.
