Bosses at the proposed London Resort multi-billion pound theme park say "more has happened in the past six months than in the last five years".

The park, originally announced in 2012 and with a 2019 opening date, has still to see any work begin on the 535-acre site on the Swanscombe Peninsula, between Gravesend and Dartford.

But at a recent meeting held at Ebbsfleet Football Club, spokesman Andy Martin said plans had started to gather pace.

It was recently confirmed that Hollywood studio Paramount - which had originally signed a naming rights deal for the project at its launch before pulling out - had once again signed up to the scheme, allowing those behind the park to use some of its major movie names for rides and attractions.

Speaking at the Ebbsfleet Executives Club, Mr Martin provided an update on the proposals for the 60-strong audience.

He said "more has happened in the past six-months than in the last five-years" and said the park was still on track to open in 2024, with a planning application for the £5billion scheme set to be submitted next year.

Other major brands also signed up to the project include ITV Studios and the BBC

He added the park was expected to generate "billions" for the UK economy and create more tens of thousands of jobs.

The project, which would rival Disneyland Paris in scale, would also see a number of hotels - among them a Radisson Blu, following an agreement signed in August.

The London Resort was also previously boosted by the arrival of Pierre-Yves 'PY' Gerbeau, the man credited for turning around the fortunes of the Millennium Dome in London.
