KENT’S impartial business advice agency is offering managing directors and CEOs the chance to improve their leadership skills.
Business Link Kent’s Business Leaders programme offers CEOs, MDs and owners of businesses employing between 20 and 250 people, a free “diagnostic” and access to up to £1,000-worth of training of their choice to develop their leadership skills.
A survey by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Chartered Management Institute showed while many leaders believe they are fledgling Richard Bransons, their managers often see them as more like the deluded David Brent from the BBC sitcom The Office.
Only one in 10 of the managers surveyed felt their leader was an inspiration; nine out of 10 claimed their boss did not trust them; and 62 per cent said their MD or CEO was out of touch with staff feelings.
Deryck Banks, workforce development adviser manager, said: “Everyone’s developmental needs will be different, so the Business Leaders programme is flexible enough to deliver a bespoke package.
“After we have helped participants build their own Personal Development Plan, they can choose from a range of courses, seminars, open learning software, books and coaching activities. They decide which suits their needs and working schedule best.
“As well as the training and support being of the participant’s own choice, it is totally free as long as it is within the £1,000 funded limit.”
