Brewing giant Scottish and Newcastle UK has raised its glass to a much-loved charity quiz in what promises to be a record-breaking year.
The Canterbury KM Big Quiz - to be dubbed the No Nonsense Quiz this year - has won sponsorship support from the company.
Now organisers are calling for teams of eight to take part in an attempt to create the county’s largest wine and wisdom evening.
S&N UK, brewers of top-selling brands such as Foster’s, Heineken, Strongbow and John Smith’s, and maker of Bulmers Original cider, is allowing organisers to use the famous John Smith’s No Nonsense slogan to promote the record-breaking event.
The company is donating beer and cider to raise additional cash for charity through the No Nonsense Charity Bars at each of the four Big Quiz events due to be staged in 2009.
They will also provide a venue for the county final in December. Company managers will advise on stock levels and provide a manager to brief the team of volunteers manning bars to boost fund-raising.
The Canterbury KM Big Quiz takes place at Kent University’s Sports Centre on Friday May 1. It will help several good causes, including the League of Friends of Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Kent Kids’ Miles of
Smiles, the Lady Mayoress of Canterbury’s Charity Appeal and children’s road safety charity Kent Walking Bus.
A table costs £60 and can be booked from the website www.kentishgazette.co.uk or www.kmbigquiz.co.uk.
Ticket prices include a ploughman’s meal and glass of wine.
Scottish and Newcastle regional manager Ian Dray said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to involve our brands with important community causes and show how much we care for the charities that matter to the people of Kent."
Other sponsors include the University of Kent, P&O Ferries, Parry Law and Barclays Bank.
